Britney Spears' doomed weddings - Las Vegas whirlwind to Kevin Federline surprise party

Britney Spears is set to marry for the third time today, after finding love with actor and dancer Sam Asghari.

The 40-year-old pop icon and her 28-year-old fiancé are expected to exchange their vows in front of a small room of people which does not include her mum Lynne Spears, dad Jamie or sister Jamie Lynn.

Sam had got down on one knee and asked her to marry him back in September, not long after she was freed from her 13-year-long conservatorship.

The Oops! I Did It Again star is finally happy after years of being under control but it took a lot for her to get to this point.

Before Sam, she was married twice - first to Jason Alexander and then later to Kevin Federline.

She also shares Sean, 16, and Jayden, 15, with K-Fed.

Here's everything we know about her first two weddings...

Jason Alexander

Jason Alexander was one of Britney's childhood friends and the two stayed close throughout the years.

In 2004, when Britney was 23 years old, she partied with Jason in a fun-filled New Year's Eve Week in Las Vegas.

And we all know what happens when two people get drunk in Vegas...

Like many people, the drunken duo got married in A Little White Wedding Chapel in Sin City and even rented a green stretch limo.

"It was just so crazy, man," Jason told Access Hollywood about the spontaneous wedding on January 3, 2004.

"We were just looking at each other and said, 'Let's do something wild, crazy. Let's go get married, just for the hell of it.'"

Chapel owner Charlotte Richards even told Rolling Stone that the two 'appeared to be extremely happy'.

"I thought it was a marriage that would last forever," she said, two days before Britney had the marriage annulled.

A mere six months later, Britney married backup dancer Kevin Federline after meeting him on the dancer floor at Joseph's club in Hollywood.

The couple announced their engagement in July 2004. While on her private plane, Britney asked K-Fed whether she would marry him.

Speaking to People, the Toxic singer said: "Then all of a sudden I said, 'What if you want to get married?' And I kind of went from there to asking him if he would marry me.

"I asked him... He said no because he thought it wasn't the right way to do it." However, he asked her to marry him a few moments later.

A week later, he gave her a five-carat diamond ring. The proposal received a lot of criticism as K-Fed had just broken up with actress Shar Jackson, who was pregnant with their second child at the time.

Things were out of control when their wedding, which was planned for October 16 of that year, became too publicised.

It stressed the couple out and they ended up shocking the world when they tied the knot in a secret wedding.

"It became this huge thing and I was like, 'What are we waiting for? We know this is the real thing, why not just do it now?' That's why I wanted to sneak and do it our little way," she told the publication.

30 of their closest friends and family were invited to their wedding at their Studio City home, but they all thought it was an engagement party.

She looked stunning in a $26,000 Monique Lhuillier wedding dress and half-gloves.

Keeping the entire thing casual, the couple offered guests a meal of chicken fingers, crab cakes, ribs, and mashed potatoes.

To celebrate the special day, they even hit up a club.

Three years later, the couple decided to go their separate ways. According to a source, K-Fed's party-boy behaviour contributed to their split.

In 2008, K-Fed opened up about the split, saying: "It's hard enough to be in a marriage, and then have a kid, then kids, it changes everything

"For me, I'd become more concerned with my children. Not that I ignored Britney, but my kids are always most important."

It was completely different for Britney, who claimed she married for the 'wrong reasons'.

“I think I married for the wrong reasons,” she said. “Instead of following my heart and doing something that made me really happy, I just did it for the idea of everything.”
