Britney Spears' mum Lynne made star end 55-hour marriage, says divorce attorney

Britney Spears' mum allegedly forced the star to end her 55-hour marriage to childhood sweetheart Jason Alexander after they secretly wed in 2004.

According to divorce attorney Mark Goldberg, the pop princess' parents had been 'interfering' in her personal life for decades and made sure that the young lovers ended their marriage.

Britney, 39, and Jason were married for just 55 hours in 2004 after they tied the knot at an early morning ceremony in Las Vegas.

It was revealed that the couple, who had grown up together, were thrilled to say their vows but things took a turn for the worst when Britney told her mum and management.

According to Goldberg, who spoke to the Mail Online, Britney's mum Lynne travelled to Vegas and 'threw Jason out'.

Although Alexander had contacted the lawyer on a number of occasions and was hopeful to reunite with Britney, their relationship became one of the shortest in showbiz history.

"As I remember it, it was Britney's idea to get married. He said they hadn't been drinking or doing drugs – or at least they weren't drunk" the lawyer told the publication.

He then added: "It was the mother interfering in and inserting herself into her daughter's life.

Goldberg then explained that Lynne Spears flew to Vegas where she made sure that their short-lived marriage came to an end. However, the lawyer also added that he didn't recall her father being mentioned at the time.

"She came to Las Vegas, threw Jason out and got him a plane ticket home," he said.

"It was none of her mother's business, but Britney was being controlled and has been controlled since she was a young girl."

Although the lawyer suggested that Alexander was hopeful that he might reunite with Britney, the pop princess eventually moved on with her life and went on to re-marry.

The latest revelations come as fans rally around the singer after she spoke for the first time about her conservatorship.

Britney's dad Jamie Spears has been her conservator ever since the pop princess suffered a breakdown in 2008. However, Free Britney supporters have been calling for the singer to regain control of her life.

At the start of the month, Britney spoke for the first time about her conservatorship as she desperately tried to have her dad's oversight removed.

She revealed in an emotional statement that she had been banned from getting married and having children, and even forced to take lithium medication that made her feel 'drunk'.

Although the case is ongoing, Britney recently had cause to celebrate after a judge finally allowed her to appoint her own lawyer.
