Britney Spears fans beg her not to support 'animal cruelty' as she holds monkey on lead

Britney Spears has been inundated with messages from fans asking her not to promote 'animal cruelty' after sharing a video of herself posing next to a monkey on a lead.

The 40-year-old popstar had been enjoying a holiday in Mexico to mark almost one year since her controversial 13-year-conservatorship came to an end.

Britney shared a montage of snaps from her getaway, including a video of herself holding a monkey which was attached to a lead. She captioned the post: "Wicked place."

In another clip, the singer kissed the monkey as it ran up her arm and wrote: "Psss the monkey’s name is Justin Bieber."

Many of Britney's fans weren't impressed with the clips and accused her of "supporting animals in chains".

One person commented: "Can we maybe not glorify monkeys on leashes? Remember people used to get enjoyment out of your imprisonment too and that's not fair for either of you."

Another said: "Please do not support animals in chains!"

"Not cool to promote animal cruelty Britney," wrote a third, while another penned: "Pls don't support animal cruelty Brit!"

"Yes it's a wicked place for thinking animal cruelty is good for tourism," fumed a fifth.

Other fans jumped to the Toxic singer's defence, with one person writing: "She’s on a way to recovery. Get a grip… she will learn."

Another agreed: "The same way the world had no idea she was being abused is the same way she has no idea that the monkey shes seeing is being abused... not everyone is gonna know... u needa chill!!!"

"Stop she didn't do anything wrong," added one fan.

Britney's getaway comes after she slammed her mum Lynne Spears and told her to "go f**k yourself" when the 67-year-old begged for her daughter's forgiveness.

Lynne had issued a public apology for any "pain" her daughter had endured during her conservatorship.

In response, the star reflected on the numerous doctor's visits she endured over the years and hit out at her family in a now-deleted Instagram post.

Britney wrote: "I was the mother f**king Saint who was scared to move or I knew my dad would put me somewhere if I didn’t cooperate … even in America, the land of the free!!!!

"Not one mother f**king person stood up for me !!! Mom take your apology and go f**k yourself!!!"
