Britney Spears has announced that she wanted to take a break from social media after deactivating her Instagram account – but some fans aren’t convinced that the singer was behind the move.
Instagram has been the main way for the newly-engaged pop superstar, 39, to share updates with fans amid her conservatorship battle.
Indeed, it was on the platform that Spears announced on Sunday that she had and long-term partner of five years – Iranian-born actor and fitness instructor Sam Asghari, 27 – were engaged.
But two days after her engagement announcement, Spears deactivated her account out of the blue, which led to concern among some of her 34.1m followers.
If someone searches for “Britney Spears” on Instagram, only fan pages and tribute sites will appear. And if someone clicks onto the singer’s official page, it appears blank as a notice reads: “Sorry, this page isn’t available.”
Since deactivating her Instagram, the singer responded to concerns from fans in a tweet on her official Twitter to say she will not be away from Instagram for long.
She said: “Don’t worry folks … just taking a little break from social media to celebrate my engagement !!!! I’ll be back soon.”

However, some fans of the pop are not convinced that it was actually Spears who was behind the tweet and social media break.

Many pointed out that Spears is not a regular user of Twitter, with her last tweet being from July 15, where she posted a video of herself doing cartwheels in celebration of a judge appointing her lawyer of choice.
Fans were also confused as to why Spears would post the statement on Twitter, and not share it on her Instagram before she deactivated it.

Spears’ attorney Mathew Rosengart, however, has told Fox News that it was “her decision” to take a social media break.
Spears’ decision to deactivate her Instagram account comes ahead of another hearing in the conservatorship that has controlled her life and career since 2008.
Her father, Jamie, oversees her multimillion-dollar estate and has done so for more than 13 years but has recently agreed to step down after months of pressure from the singer, who demanded he be removed from the role.
In a surprise turn of events, Jamie’s lawyers filed a petition at the court in Los Angeles last month asking a judge to consider terminating the conservatorship.
The judge now has to rule on the request. The next hearing is scheduled for September 29.
