Britney Spears is eager to fire her father from her conservatorship, according to reports.
The 39-year-old pop sensation has had her financial affairs and personal life under the control of a conservator since 2008 following a highly publicised break down.
Britney has been involved in a legal dispute over her conservatorship since 2019 – and fresh reports suggest she wants to have her father removed as her legal guardian.
The singer is said to be heading to court next month in order to personally petition a judge to have her father removed from her conservatorship.
TMZ has reported the latest development, stating: “Britney does not feel trapped in the 13-year-old conservatorship.”
They quote a source stating: "She has 99% of the freedom she'd have if she weren't in a conservatorship, and the only thing she's prevented from doing are crazy things, like buying 3 cars at a time [something she tried to do back in the day]."
Britney has been free to travel and has been spotted relaxing on beaches in Hawaii with her boyfriend Sam Asghari in recent months.
While her life at home in Los Angeles is reportedly also “without real restrictions”.
TMZ goes on to state: “Britney is aware her life was out of control before the conservatorship was put in place, and it created a structure and also replenished her dwindling assets.”
They add a source confided: "She's taken care of and she knows it."
The latest legal move on the part of the singer relates to her father, Jamie Spears, having control of her conservatorship.
Relations between the two are said to be frosty, with allegations Britney and her dad no longer speak.
TMZ claims: “[Britney’s] been angry at him for a long time over business issues and certain people Jamie embraced on the team ... people Britney doesn't like because she feels they were motivated not by her self-interest but theirs.”
It is claimed Britney is refusing to perform again until her father is removed as co-conservator.
While the star is said to be happy to have her friend, Jodi Montgomery, to continue serving as conservator – after she was appointed to the role in 2019.
