Britney Spears ' father has said that he'd love nothing more than to see her released from her conservatorship.
Controversy has long surrounded the legal arrangement, which means Britney can't make any big life decisions for herself or control her own hard-earned millions.
And there's been even more attention on it since the documentary Framing Britney Spears aired.
Speaking out through his attorney, Jamie said he'd love to see his famous daughter, 39, freed from the arrangement, but that it's not up to him.
His attorney Vivian Lee Thoreen told CNN : "Whether or not there is an end to the conservatorship really depends on Britney. If she wants to end her conservatorship, she can file a petition to end it."
Britney has been under the conservatorship for eight years, ever since she suffered a series of mental crises.
She has petitioned for her father to be removed from the role, but a judge has ruled that he shall remain, sharing responsibility with Bessemer Trust.
Jamie and Bessemer have control over Britney's personal affairs and her $60 million estate.
Ms Thoreen added: "Jamie is not suggesting that he is the perfect dad or that he would receive any 'Father of the Year' award.
"Like any parent, he doesn't always see eye-to-eye on what Britney may want.
"But Jamie believes every single decision he has made has been in her best interest."
She added that Jamie "never contested or objected" to Bessemer being appointed as a co-conservator.
And she said that reports from the last hearing that Jamie was trying to get more power than his co-conservator were untrue.
She clarified that they were arguing he should have "equal power".
Britney's attorney Samuel D Ingham III refused to comment as it's a "pending case".
During a hearing in November, he had told the judge that Britney was "afraid" of her father and that she refuses to perform while he is in charge of her affairs.
But Mr Spears' lawyer says her client has no say on whether or not his daughter remains under a conservatorship.
"The court investigator also interviews everyone who is involved in the conservatorship, and they do a deep dive to really study the conservatorship to find out what's going on," Ms Thoreen explained.
"And what I can tell you is every year the court has kept the conservatorship in place."
The next court hearing in the conservatorship is scheduled for March 17.
