Britney Spears confuses fans after sharing throwback snap of ex Justin Timberlake

Britney Spears' choice of image in a belated birthday message to her sister has got her fans talking.

The singer, 39, posted the loving message for "beautiful soul" Jamie Lynn Spears' 30th birthday almost a week late.

But it's the throwback picture of the pair having fun while Britney is cuddled up with ex Justin Timberlake that has sent fans' minds into overdrive.

Fans of the star were quick to question the photo choice after the Framing Britney Spears documentary seemingly showed the Cry Me A River singer be publicly vengeful towards her after their 2002 breakup.

Justin, 40, has since said that Britney "deserves better" than how he treated her back then.

The Toxic singer posted the image alongside a lengthy post to her sister which said: "I love you so much and damn it I wish I was as smart as you at 30 !!!!"

She confessed that she was "basically" her sister's mum growing up before saying how proud she is of her sister.

Britney went on to compliment her sister's mental strength while also joking about how strong she was physically too.

She signed off the message by saying: "PS I wish I was as strong as you and happy birthday."

Fans took to the post the leave their differing thoughts on the image choice.

One commented: "Of all the pictures to choose from...JT?!," while another said: "not a photo with JT. whyyyy."

Fans were divided in opinion after Britney shared an old image of Justin Timberlake (instagram)

Some were quick to suggest that the image could have been cropped to remove her former flame, but not all fans seemed against the image choice.

One of Britney's followers said: "We just have to accept this woman doesn’t hold grudges. She’s better than us lol"

Another agreed and said: "She’s a better person than I."

Britney's social media posts have come under intense scrutiny since the release of the documentary.

It's led many fans and friends of the star to claim she's not actually the personal responsible for the posts.
