Britney Spears isn’t alone as she deals with the fallout from a controversial documentary about her life.
Her boyfriend, Sam Asghari, voiced his support for the singer following last week’s release of “Framing Britney Spears,” which addresses the control her father holds in their conservatorship arrangement and her highly publicized relationship with Justin Timberlake.
“I have always wanted nothing but the best for my better half, and will continue to support her following her dreams and creating the future she wants and deserves,” Asghari told People in a report published Monday.
“I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world, and I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together.”
Celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler have shared their support for Spears on social media, tweeting the hashtag #FreeBritney following the debut of the documentary last Friday on FX and Hulu.
Spears, who rose to fame as a teenager in the late 1990s with hits such as “...Baby One More Time,” has not specifically commented on the documentary. The pop star did, however, appear to give a subtle nod to the situation in an Instagram video Monday.
“The moment we’ve all been waiting for last week: the Super Bowl!” Spears said in the video. “I was so excited, but honestly, I was rooting for Kansas City, but I was also rooting for the other team, so it was a little confusing for me.”
She concluded the video by saying, “I love sharing.”
Viewers have been critical of Timberlake, who dated Spears from 1999 to 2002, following the arrival of the documentary, which he has not publicly commented on.
Spears and Asghari have been dating since 2016.
