Britney Spears announces she has lost 'miracle baby' in early stages of pregnancy

Britney Spears has shared the heartbreaking news she has lost her "miracle baby".

The singer, 40, shared a statement from herself and fiancé Sam Asghari on Instagram on Saturday, breaking the heartbreaking news just weeks after she announced her pregnancy.

Britney told her Instagram followers: "We are grateful for what we have in the process of expanding our beautiful family. Thank you for your support."

The statement reads: "It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy.

"This is a devastating time for any parent. Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along. However we were overly excited to share the good news.

The joint statement continued: "Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family. We are grateful for all of your support.

"We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult moment."

Sam - who proposed to the singer last year - also shared the statement to his own Instagram page.

Fans rushed to the comment section to send love and support to the couple following the heartbreaking update.

"All the love in the world for you Brit," one message to the star read, with another fan adding: "I’m so sorry Britney! I know how much you want another baby. It will happen."

Britney's devastating news comes just over a month on from the pop princess announcing her pregnancy - her first with husband-to-be Sam.

Sharing the news on Instagram at the time, she revealed that she was confused after appearing to put on weight after her trip to Maui, prompting her partner to suggest that she could be pregnant.

The Gimmie More singer is already a doting mum to teenage sons Sean, 16, and Jayden, 15, with ex-husband Kevin Federline and has been open about her desire to add to her family.

Britney's pregnancy announcement in April came after her controversial 13-year conservatorship was terminated in November 2021 - leaving her free to take control of her own reproductive choices.

The music legend emotionally told a court last year that she hoped to start a family with her actor beau but had been forced to have contraception fitted in her body due to her controversial conservatorship.

"I would like to progressively move forward, and I want to have the real deal. I want to be able to get married and have a baby," Britney admitted during her virtual testimony in June 2021.

"I have an [IUD] inside of myself so I don’t get pregnant. They don’t want me to have children — any more children."
