Britney Spears accuses dad of taking over £4 million from her during conservatorship

Britney Spears has claimed her father, Jamie Spears, paid himself millions of dollars from her estate while he was her conservator.

The 40-year-old pop singer was under a conservatorship between 2008 and 2021 which meant her financial and personal affairs were controlled by someone else.

Her father, 69-year-old Jamie, was conservator throughout the court ordered rule – while Britney later succeeded in having a court add her long-time carer Jodi Montgomery as her conservator in 2019 as she worked to have her fathers influence over her reduced.

The conservatorship was finally ended last year following a high-profile legal battle – and now Britney’s legal team have outlined how much her father took from her while she did not have control of her financial affairs.

Britney is battling her father in court again as he is arguing she should cover his legal fees.

Variety reports: “[Britney]’s legal team states that Spears’ father paid himself ‘at least $6 million (£4.4 million)’ from his daughter’s estate in his role as conservator, plus ‘petitioned for fees to be paid to dozens of different law firms’ for ‘more than $30 million (£22 million)’.”

They go on to claim Jamie paid himself $6,314,307.99 (£4,632,144.77) over the course of Britney’s 13 year conservatorship.

The most recent payment of $192,000 (£140.85) in 2020 – while Jamie’s power over Britney came to an end in September last year following months of legal wrangling.

Variety goes on to claim they have seen legal documents which state: “Mr. Spears, an ignominiously-suspended conservator — of a conservatorship that has been terminated — now seeks to siphon even more money from his daughter.

“Mr. Spears should be required to pay his legal fees… if he has already dissipated those funds, he should consider hiring other, less expensive counsel whom he can afford.”

The report goes on further to suggest Jamie tried to cash in on his daughter’s name further by pitching his own TV show idea.

He is said to have attempted to create a cooking show called Cookin’ Cruzin’ and Chaos with Jamie Spears – with Britney’s legal team saying he made a ‘promo reel’ in an attempt to tempt networks to sign him up.

The court documents allege: “Mr. Spears also exploited his role as Conservator to prevail upon Ms. Spears’s tour staff to help him turn his catering business into a Hollywood career.”

During her time under her conservatorship, Britney’s then-fiancé Jason Trawick was granted power over her in 2011 – but this was rescinded in 2013 when their engagement ended.

While over the years, lawyer Andrew Wallet, accountant John Zabel, and even a company called the Bessemer Trust all served as conservators for Britney.

Appearing in court last year, Britney made heartbreaking revelations about her life while under the conservatorship – including the fact she was forced to use contraceptives to prevent her having more children.

The star has two sons, 16-year-old Sean and 15-year-old Jayden, from her past marriage to dancer Kevin Federline, 43.
