British woman dies in Turkey holiday hotspot after being hit by car

A woman from Britain has died after being struck by a car in Turkey. It is understood she had been on holiday in the Bodrum area when the incident involving a Mini happened.

The UK's Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed the death of the woman, believed to be from the Middlesborough area, and is working with authorities in Turkey. Local media reports have said a person has been arrested and an investigation is under way, TeesideLive reports.

A FCDO spokesman said: "We are supporting the family of a British woman who died in Turkey and are in contact with the local authorities."

An online newspaer in Turkey said the woman was said to have been walking on the path when she was in collision with the vehicle. She was taken to Bodrum State Hospital after the incident in the area of Mugla on Monday at Adnan Mendered Street and Gumbet Bars Street.

Bodrum is a popular holiday destination for British tourists and the province of Mugla is about 12 miles inland.
