British woman dies at Palma Airport in Majorca on Ryanair flight for Edinburgh

A British woman has died at Majorca’s Palma Airport inside a plane bound for Edinburgh Airport .

The 58-year-old reportedly fell ill after boarding the aircraft, believed to be a Ryanair plane.

Local reports said she is thought to have suffered a heart attack.

Passengers were asked to leave the plane while attempts were made to revive her.

Police also attended. The flight, due to leave just after midday today, was delayed by just over three hours and ended up departing around 3.20pm local time.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: "This flight from Palma to Edinburgh was delayed ahead of take-off after a customer became ill prior to departure.

"Paramedics boarded the aircraft after medical assistance was requested but the customer sadly passed away.

"Ryanair extends its deepest sympathies to the bereaved and is providing any assistance required.”

A spokesperson for Spanish airport operator AENA confirmed a Ryanair flight due to leave Palma for Edinburgh at 12.10pm local time had been delayed by around three hours because of the death of a passenger.

The spokesman said: “The Civil Guard took charge of the matter."

The flight is believed to have been Ryanair FR6657. The rescheduled flight later landed in Edinburgh at 5.20pm.

A local court in Majorca has been tasked with a routine investigation into the incident.

In March Brit expat Ann Rudkin, 63, died on an EasyJet flight from Gatwick as it landed in Malaga.

The grandmother-of-two, from Weymouth, Dorset, had just returned to Europe from a Caribbean cruise.
