British woman, 19 appears in Cyprus court accused of inventing gang rape attack

A British teenager was appearing in a Cyprus court this morning accused of inventing a gang rape attack while on holiday on the island.

The woman, 19, was arrested on Saturday as seven Israeli teenagers who had been held over the alleged attack were freed.

This morning she arrived at the courthouse in the town of Paralimni with her head covered.

The district court postponed the remand hearing because the woman’s lawyer was not present. It was re-scheduled to tomorrow.

A group of 12 Israeli had originally been arrested earlier this month following the woman’s report that she had been raped at a budget hotel in Ayia Napa, where she and the men were all were staying.
