British Transport Police confirm reason why Nottingham station was evacuated

Police have revealed why Nottingham railway station was evacuated this afternoon.

British Transport Police said a 200m cordon was put in place at around 12.30pm due to "a report of a suspicious package".

The security incident was "cleared" after the package had been examined just after 1.30pm today.

British Transport Police said: "The cordon has been lifted and #Nottingham station has now reopened. The suspicious package has been assessed and has been deemed safe. Thank you to everyone for their patience during this incident."

East Midlands Railway said the incident was affecting most routes in and out of the station this afternoon and replacement buses were put on fo travellers.

The trams were also affected for a time, but NET confirmed that it is now running through "all destinations" again with extended wait times in some areas.

A cordon was also set up in Queen's Road, which has now been lifted.
