British tourist ship sinks off Greek coast - 17 passengers rescued

A British tourist ship has sunk off the coast of the Greek island of Milos, triggering an operation that has now rescued all 17 passengers that were previously unaccounted for.

The boat overturned in the sea off the northwest of Milos on Thursday morning. The Greek coast guard said several vessels and a navy helicopter were assisting the rescue operation after the 30-metre yacht sent a distress signal.

Although the boat was British, all 17 passengers were Greek nationals, and all are now safe, according to the Mirror.

Before the passengers were pulled from the ocean, Manolis Mikelis, the mayor of Milos, said: "We have information for 17 people, we are in the process of collecting people from the sea.

"At the moment there is wind in the area and it is making a lot of waves, we were told about a yacht.

"With every reservation, the boat has been overturned."
