British toddler 'drowns in Spanish pool'

A British toddler has reportedly drowned in a pool in Spain. It is understood they had fallen into the water before being pulled out unconscious.

Spanish newspaper El Mundo reported that the 19-month-old child died on Wednesday (May 25) after drowning in a private pool in Aigues, around 16 miles from Alicante.

The report said authorities were alerted at around 6.15pm to a child falling in the water and being pulled out unconscious. Emergency services carried out CPR but the child was confirmed dead, the newspaper said.

A Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office spokeswoman said: “We are supporting the family of a British child who has died in Spain. Our thoughts are with the family at this very sad time.”
