British toddler 'drowned in pool after slipping through door of holiday villa'

A British toddler drowned in a swimming pool while on holiday after he slipped through the door of his family's villa.

Aydin Kamaly's lifeless body was found floating in the water outside the resort at Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands.

He was just 16 months old.

His distraught family set up The Aydin Foundation in his memory, which raised £22,650.

Paying tribute to him they said: "Aydin was a special and unique toddler, he was smart, fun and cheerful and loved to explore the world.

"Aydin was passionate about water, books and music.

"He loved to read books and have them read back to him, he enjoyed learning numbers and alphabets."

Aydin's body was found on January 23 and the fundraiser was closed on March 9 this year.

An inquest into Aydin's death was held today at Poplar Coroner's Court.

The Evening Standard reports that coroner Dr William Dolman recorded the death as an accident.

The paper says that a sliding door leading out to the swimming pool had not been shut properly, leaving a five to six inch gap, which Aydin managed to open further before climbing out.

None of the adults noticed until it was too late.

CPR was performed but the toddler could not be saved.

Rumel Kamaly, 31, said the inspiration for the charitable foundation was the desire to “focus our energy on something positive”.
