Who doesn't love a takeaway? Whether it's a chippy tea or a Chinese, pizza or an Indian, they are an absolute god send if you have the hangover from hell to cure, have friends and family round and can't be bothered to cook or just fancy treating yourself.
So it's only right that they have an awards ceremony dedicated to them and the finalists for the British Takeaway Awards 2019 have now been revealed, including the restaurants in contention for the Best in the North East title.
The British Takeaway Awards slice the UK into twelve regions, and reward the best takeaway in each region based on public votes, mystery shopping and a submission stating from the restaurants themselves on why they should win.
And the shiortlists have just been announced, pitting five North East restaurants against each other for the regional title, including last year's winner.
Birtley's Casa Rosa took the prize last year and is once again in the running for 2019 alongside Desserts Delivered Durham, Fresco Pizza & Grill in Consett, Ruchita Tandoori in Wallsend and Billingham's Hungry Jack's.
There are have also Judges Awards - Britain's Best Takeaway Chef and Delivery Driver celebrating the behind the scene heroes who make takeaways brilliant, and the Game Changer, for restaurants that are making waves in the industry.
This year's awards ceremony will be held at The Savoy Hotel in London and each winner will receive £1,000 cash, their Just Eat sign-up fee refunded or a free sign-up to Just Eat and an exclusive British Takeaway Awards trophy.
The overall winner will also take home £5,000.
