A British-Sudanese jihadi with links to a group of medics who went to Syria to join Islamic State has been killed during fighting in the country, according to reports.

Osman Mustafa Fagiri, 23, was believed to be connected to a group of medical students – four women and five men – who travelled to Syria to work in hospitals in Isis-controlled areas.

Experts at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation, who have verified a number of British deaths in Syria, said Fagiri, who previously lived in north London, died in the past fortnight while battling Syrian regime forces.

Fagiri, who was married, has described walking the streets of Raqqa, the Isis stronghold, in Facebook messages.

He is understood to have joined Sudanese jihadis who went to fight in Mali in 2013, and visited Swiss Cottage in north London for 10 days last year before flying back to Khartoum, Sudan’s capital.
