The British Soap Awards descended into chaos on Saturday night after a bomb threat forced an emergency evacuation of London’s Hackney Empire.
The glitzy ceremony, hosted by Jane McDonald alongside Sir David Jason and Larry Lamb, was thrown into turmoil just before 1am as security ordered stars and guests to leave the venue.
A source told The Mirror: “It was total panic. Security rushed around and told everyone to get out immediately. At first, they didn’t say why — but soon we were told there was a bomb threat. Everyone was left standing outside, confused and shocked.”
Footage shared on social media showed soap stars, including EastEnders’ Tameka Empson and Hollyoaks actor Emmett J Scanlan, gathered on the street as crowds were ushered out.
Some guests were visibly frustrated as security staff refused to let them back into the venue.

“It was surreal. One minute we were celebrating, the next we were out on the pavement wondering what was going on,” the source added.
Attendees eventually drifted away as the building remained sealed off for the rest of the night.
Earlier in the evening, the red carpet saw a star-studded turnout, with Patsy Palmer and Michelle Collins leading the glamour as the soap world gathered to celebrate its biggest night of the year.
ITV recently confirmed the return of the popular awards show, with McDonald once again taking on hosting duties.
