A British police officer from West Yorkshire is currently facing terror charges for showing support for Hamas on WhatsApp, according to a statement released by the Independent Office for Police Conduct on Wednesday.
The officer, identified as Mohammed Adil, allegedly shared images on the messaging platform that expressed support for Hamas, a group that is banned and designated as a terrorist organization in the United Kingdom.
Adil has been charged with two counts of publishing an image in support of a proscribed organization, which is a violation of the Terrorism Act.
The images in question were reportedly shared by Adil during the months of October and November via WhatsApp.
Following the allegations, Adil has been suspended from his duties by the West Yorkshire police force.
He is set to appear in court on Thursday at Westminster Magistrates’ Court to address the charges brought against him.
