British passenger forced to isolate in Greece after being thrown off Jet2 flight to Manchester

A plane bound for Manchester from Turkey was forced to land in Greece after claims a British passenger started banging on the cockpit door.

Crews aboard the Jet2 flight from Dalaman to Manchester had to restrain the man, after he began shouting and 'hammering' on the pilot's door.

The plane was forced to activate an emergency situation just one hour into its journey on Wednesday evening (August 26).

It was given permission to land at the Ioannis Kapodistrias Airport on the island of Corfu shortly after 8pm, reports state broadcaster ERT TV.

Airports in Greece are currently closed to flights from Turkey due to the coronavirus pandemic.

ERT TV say the passenger, who was reported as British, was eventually brought under control by crew and some of the 220 passengers.

It is thought that the disruptive passenger was the only person allowed to disembark the plane before he was then arrested by Greek Police.

He is thought to have taken a test for Covid-19 and will have to stay in isolation until the results are returned.

The aircraft was able to continue with the rest of its flight with a delay of 90 minutes.

A spokesperson for Jet2 said: "Flight LS922 from Dalaman to Manchester was diverted to Corfu on Wednesday, to offload a disruptive passenger.

"We would like to thank our highly-trained crew for their handling of the situation, and we would also like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience or upset that this caused.

"As a family friendly airline, we take a zero tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour."
