British National Road Championships to return to west Wales this June

The Lloyds National Road Championships will be held in Ceredigion, Wales for the second year running this June.

The event will take place between 25-28 June, with the time trials, circuit races and road races all held in the west Wales county.

The announcement comes as part of a three-year agreement between British Cycling and the Welsh government to stage the championships, meaning next year’s event, 2027, will also be held in Wales.

“Ceredigion provides the perfect stage for what promises to be another captivating National Championships bringing together the best of British talent,” said Jonathan Day, director of events at British Cycling Ventures, in a statement.

The championships will open with the time trials on Thursday 25 June in Lampeter. The circuit races will then take place on Friday 26 June, before the road races on Sunday 28 June, both starting in Aberystwyth as they did in 2025.

The full routes will be revealed nearer the event.

Last year, Zoe Bäckstedt (Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto) and Ethan Hayter (Soudal Quick-Step) won the elite time trials; Cameron Mason (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Kate Richardson (Handsling Alba Development Road Team) won the circuit races; and Millie Couzens (Fenix-Deceuninck) and Sam Watson (Ineos Grenadiers) became national road champions.

Wales will also host the third stage of the UK Tour de France Grand Départ in 2027, which will run from Welshpool to Cardiff on 4 July.

Jack Sargeant, the Welsh Minister for Sport, said Wales is becoming a “top destination for world-class cycling”

“The return of the Lloyds National Road Championships to Ceredigion is further proof of that,” he said in a statement.

“From the streets of Aberystwyth to the mountains at the heart of the south Wales valleys that’ll form part of the Tour de France Grand Départ route, we are determined that every part of Wales has the opportunity to share in the passion and economic benefits that major cycling events bring.”

Prior to last year's edition, the 2023 and 2024 British National Road Championships were held in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire.

The road races this June come less than a week before the start of the Tour de France in Barcelona, meaning the men's elite winner could debut the red, white and blue jersey almost immediately on the sport's biggest stage.
