A British man has died in a fire at a house near an upmarket Spanish golf club.
The victim, aged about 50, is believed to have been killed by smoke inhalation after the blaze broke out at the property on the Alcaidesa Golf and Beach resort at around 2.30am on Monday.
It is not clear if the Brit, who has not been named, was on holiday or lived in the area.
Several people are said to have been trapped by the fire in San Roque, Cadiz, Spain.
Witnesses heard shrieks of 'fire' shortly after the blaze erupted, according to the Spanish news site Nius .
The residential estate where the fire occurred is a 15-minute drive from Gibraltar and very close to Sotogrande, where Prince Andrew spent time this summer.
Another British man reportedly escaped the blaze and is currently recovering.
It is said the fire was restricted to the bedroom of the property - with the two British men suffering from smoke inhalation.
Alcaidesa boasts two golf courses, making it a popular destination for golf lovers.
It has a five-star rating by reviewers on travel website expedia.co.uk.
An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire.
