British man 'kidnapped by gunmen in Philippines with wife'

A British man and his wife have reportedly been abducted by gunmen in the Philippines.

The man in his 70s and his wife were reportedly targeted by four armed abductors in Tukuran, in the southern province of Zamboanga del Sur.

They were abducted at a beach resort where they have a home, Captain Nur Mahadi told the Inquirer.

A police manhunt has been launched to locate the couple, OneTVPhilippines reports.

The kidnappers reportedly fled in two directions.

A friend posted on Twitter: "Hello guys. I really don't know how to say this but my mom's friend and her husband were kidnapped on 6pm earlier at Tukuran and your prayers would be very much helpful.

"Thank you all so much. God bless and stay safe everyone."

The Foreign Office is looking into the kidnapping reports.

Police say the abduction could have been motivated by a "personal grudge", CNN reports.
