British man jailed for 'swearing at Oman airport' on the way to visit sick mum

A British man has been arrested in Oman after allegedly swearing at the airport when he found out his flight had been delayed.

Les Bragg, 41, was flying home last month from the Philippines to care for his disabled mother and his grandmother suffering with dementia.

He was on a stopover at Muscat Airport in Oman when the incident happened.

According to Sun Online , his friend, Laura Weston said she understood that Les swore when he found out his connecting flight to London Heathrow had been delayed.

He was then arrested by the police, who also claimed to smell alcohol on Les's breath after he had a drink on the plane to Oman.

Les, from Portsmouth, is reportedly locked up in Arzat prison in Salalah and he was told to pay around £22,000 to be released.

Laura has set up a fundraising page to help release him out of the prison.

In the description, she wrote: "He [Les] is now is prison in Oman and was forced to sign a document in Arabic incriminating him.

"He's been trapped in prison since without any permission for contact.

"The conditions in prison are terrible and Les hasn't eaten for days. We're really worried about him and desperately want to get him home safe to his family and loved ones."

Les, according to the report, had been working as a diving instructor in the Philippines when his mother's health deteriorated.

Laura was told that Les believed the Omani authorities want to 'put him away for one to three years'.

The Foreign Office said: "We are supporting a British man and his family following his arrest."
