An English man had his foot bitten off by a shark during a snorkeling tour in Australia, authorities have said.
Another Briton has "serious lacerations to his lower leg" after the attack - and both men are now in "a serious but stable condition" in hospital, according to Central Queensland Rescue.
Local media reported that the pair, both believed to be in their 30s, were set upon near Hook Passage, a body of water between Whitsunday Islands and Hook Island.
The men were taken on a tour boat to Airlie Beach, on the north-eastern coast of Australia, before being airlifted by helicopter around 70 miles to a hospital in the city of Mackay.

They were attacked while taking part in a ZigZag snorkeling tour at around 10.22am on Tuesday, according to Mail Online.
Queensland Ambulance tweeted: "Two patients are being transported by road to a location on Proserpine Shute Harbour Road where they will meet up with the rescue helicopter.
"Both patients have sustained serious lower limb injuries and are in a serious condition.
"Two patients are being transported by helicopter in serious conditions to the Mackay Hospital following a shark bite incident in #AirlieBeach."
There have been numerous shark attacks in the Whitsunday island group in recent years, including a fatal incident at Cid Harbour involving a 33-year-old man last November.
Tourist Daniel Christidis died in hospital after being attacked while paddleboarding and swimming in the Whitsunday Islands in Queensland.
