A man from the Isle of Wight has died on Koh Tao in Thailand, the island where two British tourists were murdered in 2014.

Luke Miller, 26, was found dead in a hotel swimming pool after jumping from a nearby DJ booth while “heavily drunk”, Thai police said. Officers think he hit his head on the bottom of the pool and do not believe any foul play was involved, the Island Echo reported.

His body has been taken to the mainland, where a postmortem will be conducted. CCTV footage from the hotel will also be examined.

The Foreign Office said it was providing assistance to the family of a British national who died in Koh Tao. “Local authorities are investigating the death and we will remain in contact with them,” it said.

David Miller, 24, from Jersey, and Hannah Witheridge, 23, from Great Yarmouth, were found dead near a beachside bungalow on the island in September 2014. They had several deep wounds to their bodies.

Last month a court in Thailand sentenced two Burmese men to death for the murders. Human rights groups condemned the verdict as deeply flawed.
