British man, 62, dies on hiking trip in the Costa del Sol

A 62-year-old Brit has died after getting into difficulties on a hiking trip in the Costa del Sol.

The man, who has not been named, is reported to have been trying to reach the summit of the Pico de la Concha in Marbella.

He set off on Saturday morning and alerted his family by WhatsApp he was in trouble that afternoon.

His message sparked a helicopter search by a mountain rescue crew, according to a local media report.

The helicopter search was called off at around 8.30pm due to lack of light, Spanish newspaper Sur reported, though a team continued on foot.

The man was eventually found dead at 9am on Sunday morning.

He was discovered in a remote area of the Sierra Blanca mountain range.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office told PA: "We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Marbella and are in contact with the local authorities."
