A British man said Americans are lazy because they never get out of their cars. His American wife tried to prove him wrong, but her plan completely backfired. Paige Wester is from Michigan but now lives in the United Kingdom with her British husband, Alex Tagg.
According to Daily Dot, when they visited the United States together, Tagg kept saying that Americans depend too much on their cars and avoid walking whenever possible. Wester did not agree with him and thought Americans just like things to be easy and quick. She decided to film their day doing errands on November 3, 2025, to show him that convenience is different from being lazy.
But when she looked back at the video, she realized they had finished everything without getting out of the car even once. In the footage, Wester talked about how her husband thinks Americans are “the laziest people on the planet.” She wanted to show that this was not true and that Americans just prefer faster ways to get things done.
People online could not believe what they saw
Their day out included going to several different places. They stopped at the bank, got food from McDonald’s, dropped off old clothes at Goodwill, picked up coffee from Dunkin’, and returned books to the library. Wester even mentioned that they could have gotten medicine from a pharmacy without leaving the car if they needed to.
The video on TikTok became very popular and got 1.8 million views. Many people from other countries left comments saying this way of living makes people lonely and takes away chances to connect with others. A person named faith said, “okay a drive through bank IS ACTUALLY LAZY.” Someone else named jules wrote, “american life seems to be just driving to different places to spend money.”
People from other countries were really surprised by what Americans can do without leaving their cars. Beck Hamlin from Australia commented, “As an Australian this blows my mind.” Ebony Mackintosh thought it was ridiculous and wrote, “Drive through bank and library is absolutely ABSOLUTELY absurd.” Another person with the username hail.nia asked, “Do you not have online banking?”
One part of the video that got a lot of attention was when they went to Goodwill. Wester explained that workers usually come to your car window to take donation bags from you. Her husband felt embarrassed about this and got out of the car to hand the bags to the worker himself. The moment got people talking, much like other controversial incidents that have divided opinions online.
When they stopped at Dunkin’, Wester said almost every coffee shop in America has a drive-through window. She compared this to England, where people go inside coffee shops to buy drinks and talk with other customers. Wester said she likes the American way better because she is a mom and does not have extra time to sit in coffee shops.
Some people said the drive-through way of life is bad, while others said it makes sense for people who have busy schedules. Stories about cultural differences and unexpected experiences keep getting attention on social media. People are still talking about car culture in different parts of the world and sharing their own stories.
