British holidaymakers returning from Spain WILL have to quarantine for two weeks

Brits in Spain will have to isolate for two weeks when they get home as the country ends its quarantine agreement amid a fresh coronvirus outbreak, the Department of Transport has confirmed.

It has been announced tonight that the change will affect all tourists from the UK nations - unless they're back by midnight on Saturday, July 25.

It comes as Spain is hit by a second wave of the virus.

Travellers from Spain arriving after midnight tonight will need to spend two weeks in quarantine in case they are infected with coronavirus.

The Government said the quarantine rules would apply to people returning from anywhere in Spain, as well as the Canary and Balearic Islands.

Wales' Health Minister Vaughan Gething said: “Anyone who arrives in the UK from Spain will be required to quarantine for 14 days as of tomorrow following a surge in coronavirus cases in the country.

"I am amending our international travel regulations with effect from midnight tonight due to the public health risk involved. This will reduce the risk of the transmission of the virus here in Wales.”

A DOT spokesperson said: "The Joint Biosecurity Centre together with Public Health England have updated their coronavirus assessments of Spain based on the latest data. As a result, Spain has been removed from the lists of countries from which passengers arriving in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are exempted from the need to self-isolate.

"Protecting public health is our absolute priority and we have taken this decision to limit any potential spread to the UK.

"We've always been clear that we would act immediately to remove a country where necessary. Both our list of quarantine exemptions and the FCO travel advice are being updated to reflect these latest risk assessments."

Last Monday, Spain recorded 4,581 new cases from the weekend period - a sharp rise in infections, reports  The Mirror.
