British Grand Prix qualifying results: Lewis Hamilton takes 91st career pole at Silverstone

Lewis Hamilton recovered from a spin in qualifying to storm home and take pole position for the British Grand Prix on Sunday.

The six-time world champion clinched his seventh pole at Silverstone ahead of Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas, breaking the lap record twice in a dramatic qualifying session.

The 35-year-old made a rare error in Q2 when he put his Mercedes into the gravel at Luffield and spun on the apex, causing the session to be red-flagged due to debris on the track.

But he recovered to lock in a stunning lap time of 1:24.303 on the soft tyre, beating Bottas by three-tenths of a second.

It was Hamilton's 91st career pole, extending his lead as F1's best qualifier, as he chases a seventh victory at his home grand prix.

The two Mercedes were some distance clear of the next closest challenger, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen a second back in third place.

Charles Leclerc brushed aside Ferrari's recent troubles with performance to take fourth ahead of Lando Norris and Racing Point's Lance Stroll.

Carlos Sainz took seventh ahead of the two Renaults of Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon, with Sebastian Vettel again starting 10th.

Alex Albon did nothing to supress speculation over his future at Red Bull, continuing his disappointing weekend as he could only qualify 12th - missing out on Q3.
