The third annual BBC First British film festival showcases 31 films made in the UK. It opens with Paolo Sorrentino’s Palme–d’Or–nominated Youth, an introspective film about two old friends on a vacation in a prestigious hotel in the Swiss Alps.
The festival focuses on films with strong female leads, including Suffragette with Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep; and Dare to be Wild, the true story of Irish heroine Mary Reynolds. There are also documentaries, romantic comedies, family specials and retrospectives based on the theme of Love Actually: a century of British romance.
