British Fashion Council launches sustainable designer face masks

The British Fashion Council has launched a selection of sustainable designer face masks today.

Designed in London by six British designers, including Halpern, Julien Macdonald, Liam Hodges, Mulberry, RAEBURN and RIXO, the project aims to raise £1 million.

100 per cent of the proceeds raised will be split equally between NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Urgent Appeal, BFC Foundation Fashion Fund and Wings of Hope Children’s Charity.

The news comes following announcements from the government that wearing face masks on public transport in England will be compulsory from June 15.

The masks come with a protective pouch (BFC)

The non-medical face coverings have been produced by sustainable company Bags of Ethics using no single-use plastic.

“Fashion is a unifying force and now, more than ever, it is essential that we collaborate and come together to support each other through difficult times," Caroline Rush, CEO of the British Fashion Council, says. "Our ambition is to contribute to the fight against COVID-19, while protecting vital PPE supplies reserved for the NHS. Through this project, we will not only celebrate British designers but also champion sustainability in a time of crisis.“

The launch of the masks comes just days before London Fashion Week Men's will be streamed virtually next week.

The machine-washable masks will cost £15 and will be sold in packs of three. Buy yours now from ASOS, Boots, John Lewis & Partners and Sainsbury's.
