British ex-stripper charged with shooting girlfriend dead in France

George Goodayle is accused of killing Jayne Nicholson - (Facebook)

A British former stripper has been charged with killing his girlfriend with a hunting rifle at their home in rural France.

George Goodayle admitted to police that he had shot his 49-year-old girlfriend, Jayne Nicholson, on Sunday evening, initially telling officers the following day that it had been an accident.

According to the public prosecutor, officers discovered Nicholson’s “lifeless body” at a property in the village of Les Champs, where a rifle was also found.

A post-mortem examination later revealed she had been shot twice, with a pathology report confirming “the presence of two ballistic wounds in the victim's upper body”.

Public prosecutor Benoît Bernard said Goodayle is being investigated on suspicion of murder — the equivalent of being formally charged.

Following a court appearance in France, Goodayle has been remanded in custody.

It is understood the British couple had been together since last summer and had opened a bar and takeaway business before it was shut down by officials.

Earlier in his life, Goodayle worked as an exotic dancer and model, most notably as part of the Dreamboys strip troupe, where he was known as “Gorgeous George”.

He is later reported to have worked as a builder and director of Goodayle Construction.

Images and videos shared on Nicholson’s social media accounts appeared to show a happy rural life after the Doncaster mother moved to south-west France in 2016.

The prosecutor said Nicholson had “no declared occupation” at the time of her death, although she is understood to have previously worked at a boarding kennel and was known as a horse lover.

Tributes have poured in for Nicholson as news of her death spread among friends and family on local Doncaster social media pages.

“Omfg Jane !!! Went to France for better relaxed life and loses her life there !!! Poor poor lassI’m utterly flabbergastedI hope justice is doneMy love and thoughts to Jane’s family and her boys !!!!” wrote one social media account.

Another added: “This is awful news she was such a lovely lady. We bought our dog from her and what a fab dog she is couldn't recommend her enough .Thinking of her family.”
