British dad 'who touched hearts' shot dead during trip abroad for son's wedding

A murder probe has been launched after a British dad was killed in Pakistan while attending his son's wedding.

Dad-of-four Sajid Sharif was described as a man who 'touched millions of hearts'.

The 50-year-old businessman was known for running Button & Lace House, in the Alum Rock area of Birmingham, and other shops across the city.

It is understood he had recently celebrated his son's wedding during a visit to Pakistan before he was tragically killed, reportedly by a gunman, at his family home, in Gujar Khan, Rawalpindi, on Thursday, January 5.

Mr Sharif's death has caused a "shockwave" to loved ones in the UK and abroad, a family member said.

More than 1,500 mourners paid their respects at his funeral the following day in Gujar Khan.

It is understood two men have been held in custody in connection with Mr Sharif's murder.

Police inquiries are said to be continuing.

The death of Mr Sharif - a former political figure in Gujar Khan who was highly respected in the community - has left his family "devastated and destroyed."

A family member told Birmingham Live: "Sajid was a lovely person who touched millions of hearts. He was an honest, open person always willing to help those in need.

"He worked ever so hard in the last 10 years to develop a successful operating business in the UK and Pakistan. He always looked at opportunities to excel further.

"His loss has caused a shockwave to multiple people in the UK and abroad and has come as a major shock.

"The family are ever so devastated, destroyed as he was the core of all of the families here in the UK and abroad.

"We will deeply miss him and know no one can ever replace him."
