British comedian Bill Bailey hints at Black Books reunion ahead of Australian tour

Much-loved comedian, actor and musician Bill Bailey has indicated a reunion of British comedy classic Black Books could be on the cards.

Bailey, who played offbeat bookshop assistant Manny Bianco in the three-season show, told ABC Radio Adelaide there were "moves afoot" to reunite the cast.

The show's lead actor Dylan Moran has previously suggested, in the manner of his character Bernard Black, that there is absolutely "no, no, no, no" possibility of him reprising the role of the show's disgruntled and dishevelled anti-hero.

But, when asked by presenter Ali Clarke whether "there was any chance at all we could see Black Books and the team get back together" à la American show Friends, Bailey dropped tantalising details about a potential next chapter.

While an anniversary episode seems unlikely, Bailey hinted at some kind of get-together involving the show's stars.

"I don't know about the show, or I don't know about Black Books as a show or as an entity," he said.

Bill Bailey spoke to ABC Radio Adelaide's Ali Clarke.

In a discussion that ranged from his childhood comic heroes to his love of blending music with laughs, Bailey also spoke of his newfound love of skydiving.

"When you're flying through the air at 125 miles per hour, it brings life into sharp focus," Bailey said.

The raconteur also reflected on his use of time in lockdown in the United Kingdom.

"I got to be quite good with all the technology," he said.

"I converted a little corner of my studio into a voice studio so I could do voiceovers."

Bailey is scheduled to tour Australia, coronavirus permitting, in October and November in various capital cities and regional centres.
