A humanoid robot described as "one of the most exciting artists of our time” was unveiled in the United Kingdom.
Aidan Meller, a British citizen interested in collecting artworks, unveiled the robot, Ai-Da, that he created in Oxford.
The robot is able to draw creatively thanks to in-built artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Standing alongside his creation, Meller said that "it is fully algorithmic... fully creative".
"It is not an expensive printer. We do not know what it's going to do,” he added.
The Phys.org website said that Ai-Da is built with cameras for eyes and a robotic arm to draw with.
According to the German news agency, it can currently only hold certain hard tools, like pencils, not brushes.
Meller, also an art gallery director, began seriously working on the project in 2017, with the help of British robotics company Engineered Arts, and researchers at both Leeds and Oxford universities.
He explained that Ai-Da boasts incredible technologies and abilities to produce remarkable, innovative and creative artwork, noting no two works are ever the same.
He hoped his invention will also eventually be able to intuitively communicate and perhaps describe its own artwork.
