British boy, 15, who died in Spain had been trying to fix broken blind before fall

A British teenager who died after a horror plunge from a seventh floor apartment had been trying to fix a broken blind.

The teen, who has not been named, was staying with a host family in the city of Cordoba, southern Spain when tragedy struck.

One person said it appeared the blind had got stuck as he tried to lower it after getting out of bed because a light coming through his window was stopping him from sleeping.

A local paper said he had gone to bed shortly before the tragedy after going out for a hamburger with his host family.

The 15-year-old is understood to have been on a school exchange to the city of Cordoba.

Local authorities say they are treating the incident as a tragic accident and say police are not investigating it as a crime at this stage.

The youngster fell to his death from the bathroom window at the block around 11.25pm last night.

He had been in the city for less than a week and was participating in a language exchange.

Local education chief Inmaculada Troncoso said in a statement: “We deeply regret what has happened.

“We are offering support to the school where the boy was as well as his family.”

The apartment where the tragedy happened is in a street called Calle Periodista Quesada Chacon.
