British boy, 12, dies while swimming in pool during French family holiday

A young British boy has died while swimming in a pool during a family holiday in France, as onlookers desperately tried to save his life.

The 12-year-old boy, who has not yet been identified, is thought to have got into difficulties in a pool by a man-made beach at a Eurocamp resort in the Berny-Rivière area of northern France, HullLive reports.

Dozens of people rushed to help when the boy was pulled from the water at the Eurocamp La Croix du Vieux Pont holiday site on Thursday evening, at around 6pm local time.

Sadly, he was pronounced dead after being airlifted to hospital in Paris.

In a statement, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it was supporting the boy's family. A spokeswoman said: "We are supporting the family of a British child who has died in France and are in contact with the French authorities."

La Croix du Vieux Pont is about 90 minutes away from the centre of Paris and Disneyland resort and is popular with British families.

Eurocamp has been contacted for comment following the incident.
