In need of a makeover?
Rishi Sunak claimed to be as he spoke at the launch of the British Beauty Week, which runs five days until September 12 in Covent Garden.
“The beauty industry is the best of British business,” he said. “You are creative, you are entrepreneurial, and you are innovative – no wonder you are worth £30 billion to the UK economy.”

Today marks the beginning of a week packed with talks, makeup masterclasses, skin consultations and treatments. Titled ‘Beauty Reimagined’, the British Beauty Council which has organised the event in partnership with No7 Beauty Company, is looking to introduce attendees to great products and to consider how the industry can progress.
There will be chances to hear from leaders in beauty. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who celebrated the launch of her new brand Rose Inc on Monday night, will discuss the topic ‘Setting the Agenda: Where Beauty Goes From Here’ on September 10 during her fireside chat. Expect insights on creating a beauty brand, and what makeup means to the model.
Elsewhere on the line-up is the opportunity to meet MUAs Val Garland and Dominic Skinner, known for their roles on BBC Three’s Glow Up, which introduced flocks of fans to the possibilities (and joys) to be had with makeup. They will be speaking on September 11 about all things unheard in the beauty industry, notably – how to make your mark.
Other important conversations taking place include ‘what is true inclusivity?’ a question that will be posed at the ‘Moving Towards an Inclusive Beauty Industry’ discussion on September 10. Gary Thompson, known as The Plastic Boy, Dija Ayodele, Ruby Hammer MBE and Munnawar Chishty will be on the panel, hosted by the British Beauty Council Race & Equalities Advisor Sharon Lloyd. Sustainability in the industry will be discussed on September 9, and podcaster and writer Emma Gunavardhana will be having a conversation about self-confidence on September 10.
