British Army veteran accused of police stab threats while armed with knife

An Iraq veteran has appeared in court accused of threatening to stab police officers while armed with a knife.

Fraser Rae, who served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, is said to have lost the plot at his home in Paisley, near Glasgow, at the weekend.

Prosecutors claim the former soldier behaved in a threatening or abusive way, which was likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm, by repeatedly shouting, swearing and making "threats towards Police Constables."

He is also said to have displayed "an aggressive attitude" to police and threatened to "stab every one" of them while in possession of a bladed weapon.

Rae, 36, was arrested in connection with the allegations and held in custody overnight before appearing in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday.

He was represented by defence solicitor Amy Spencer during his short hearing, where he pleaded not guilty to the single charge he faces - breaking Section 38(1) of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010.

Sheriff Eoin McGinty released Rae on bail, setting a trial and pre-trial hearing for later this year, and saying: "It's very important you keep in contact with your lawyer."
