The British Army is testing a “smart” rifle scope which makes every bullet find its target.
The kit turns every soldier into a sharpshooter by using computer image processing that locks on to targets and never misses.
It can be fitted to any type of rifle and has been hailed as an infantry warfare “game changer”.
The SAS is understood to be particularly keen after America’s secretive Delta Force called the scope “outstanding”.
It works by finding targets automatically and placing red squares around them.
The soldier presses the trigger and holds it until the system releases a bullet within a millisecond.
The scope calculates several factors including distance, angles, motion and wind speed – and is just as deadly at night as in daylight.
It has been developed by Israeli firm Sharp Shooter and costs just £800.
A senior defence source said: “This could really transform the battlefield. Knowing that you are going to take down a target is a game changer.”
The scope has been tested by American and Australian forces and has already been in use for a year with Israeli troops, who have applied it to shooting down fast-moving drones.
