British Army sergeant 'tried to kill wife by sabotaging parachute'

An army sergeant is on trial in England for attempting to murder his wife by tampering with her parachute.

The court in Winchester heard that Emile Cilliers had met a woman on the dating app Tinder and wanted to kill his wife.

He'd allegedly left gas leaking in their home in his first murder attempt and then days later removed vital parts of her parachute so she spun thousands of metres to the ground during a jump.

His wife survived but suffered multiple serious injuries.

Mr Cilliers told his new lover he was leaving his wife because she had been having an affair — something the court was told was a lie.

The prosecutor said the 37-year-old sergeant had also still been sleeping with his ex-wife and had treated all of the women with contempt.
