Update: The British Airways website is now back up and running

It’s one of the most popular airlines around the world, but it the British Airways website crashed momentarily this afternoon.

According to DownDetector, the issues started shortly after 13:00 BST, and affected users across the UK.

While the reason for the issues remains unclear, of those who reported problems, 55% said it was with the website, 27% with online check in and 17% with flight delays.

When Mirror Online tried to visit the website ourselves, we were met with an error, reading 'Sorry. We regret to advise that this section of the site is temporarily unavailable.'

Several users took to Twitter to vent their frustrations with the outage.

One user said: "What is happening with your website at the moment? All I get is:'We regret to advise that this section of the site is temporarily unavailable.'?"

Another added: "How long is the website down for?"

Mirror Online has contacted British Airways for comment.

The website appears to be down (British Airways)

The outage comes shortly after British Airways pilots confirmed they will strike across three days in September.

Thousands of people received emails warning flights on September 9, 10 and 27 would be hit by a "large number of delays and cancellations" after the British Airline Pilots' Association (Balpa) union confirmed the action.

In addition, some customers flying between the 8th and 12th have been told their flight has been cancelled.
