British Airways plane to Palma aborts journey midflight amid reports of emergency

Travellers on a British Airway plane have returned back to the UK after a flight was abandoned mid-journey. The plane left Southampton Airport at 2.10pm heading for the sunshine destination of Palma de Mallorca in Spain.

However according to Radarbox flight tracker it turned around over Le Havre in France and headed back to Southampton. It is understood it acted following a "general emergency".

The plane is understood to have landed safely back in the UK at 2.53pm. No further details of the cause have been issued.

RadarBox spotters posted on Facebook: "British Airways Flight BA4507 from Southampton, UK to Palma de Mallorca, Spain transmits code 7700, indicating general emergency and begins flying back toward UK airspace."
