British Airways IT failure causing travel misery for Scots holiday makers

An IT systems failure is causing travel misery for Scots holidaymakers as British Airways is forced to cancel flights.

Some short-haul flights from Heathrow, Gatwick and London City airports have been cancelled, or delayed, leaving other airports including Glasgow and Edinburgh affected.

There are reports of at least one plane is grounded at Glasgow Airport due to the ongoing problems.

Kieran Healey-Ryder tweeted he boarded at 6.30am this morning at Glasgow heading for London and was stuck on the plane.

British Airways has cancelled 81 flights due to operate to or from Heathrow while 10 Gatwick flights were cancelled.

More than 200 other flights were delayed, with some more than five hours behind schedule.

Glasgow Airport has said six BA flights operating from the airport have all been cancelled. These are BA 1479, BA 1482, BA 2960, BA 1483, BA 1487, BA 2961.

The airline, owned by International Airlines Group, said: "We are working as quickly as possible to resolve a systems issue which has resulted in some short-haul cancellations and delays from London airports."

It said it was offering customers booked on short-haul services departing from London airports the opportunity to rebook on another day.
