British Airways goes bamboo in drive against plastic waste

British Airways has introduced a series of changes on planes to reduce its impact on the environment.

They include a First Class duvet made from recycled plastic bottles and an amenity kit made of recycled plastic.

All plastic swizzle sticks will be replaced with bamboo equivalents and earbuds will no longer come in a wrapping, saving a combined total of 56.5 tonnes of single-use plastic annually.

Premium coffee beans with 100 per cent plastic free and fully compostable packaging are now offered, plus 15p off drinks if passengers use their own cup.

BA has also recruited a “war on waste” team to make further changes.

A spokesman for the airline said: “We are determined to play our part to reduce our environmental impact.”
