A British Airways flight was forced to make an emergency landing and four crew members were taken to hospital, after the plane filled with smoke.
The plane was enroute to Gatwick from Bari, in Italy, when the drama unfolded at 30,000 feet.
All 165 passengers were safely evacuated after the plane made an emergency landing in Basel, Switzerland.
They were later flown to the UK in another BA plane.

The pilot had warned the nearest control tower as soon as he noticed the smoke in the cabin and landed at 1:19 pm, on October 5.
A spokesman for Basle-Mulhouse airport said: "A British Airways plane made an emergency landing after the pilot reported smoke on board.
"Emergency services attended and four crew members were taken to hospital as a precaution."
He said that air traffic was interrupted for 20 minutes, after the incident.
A spokesman for British Airways said: "We're very sorry for the delay to our customers' journeys after our aircraft diverted as a precaution due to a technical issue.
"Safety is always our top priority, and we would never operate an aircraft if we believed it posed any health or safety risk to our customers or crew.
"Our customers were able to continue their journeys on a different aircraft."
