British Airways flight forced to divert to Manchester over medical issue

A flight heading from London to Aberdeen has diverted to land in Manchester after a crew member was struck down by a medical problem.

British Airways flight BA1306 was given 'priority landing' after a cabin crew member became 'unwell'.

A spokesman for the airline said as background that the grounding had been given 'priority' status as opposed to 'emergency'.

He added: "The flight diverted to Manchester as a precaution due to an unwell cabin crew member on board. The aircraft landed safely. We are sorry for the inconvenience to our customers."

The flight had left Heathrow at 10.39am on Tuesday morning and was due to arrive into Aberdeen at around 11.51am.

Plane enthusiasts reported seeing the aircraft diverting from its route, circling north Manchester and landing at the hub, where it is understood to have been met by a number of vehicles.

BA1306 flight is now expected to arrive into Scotland at 2pm.

The diversion comes amid unprecendented times for the airline industry as the sector struggles in a climate of strict travel measures.

It's understood around 2,000 passengers are currently travelling in and out of Manchester's one operating terminal.

Last year, there would have been around 80,000 passengers passing through the three terminals each day.
